The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is one of the nation’s largest, most innovative and affordable medical colleges. With Millcreek Community Hospital and the clinical practices of Medical Associates of Erie, LECOM forms the only osteopathic Academic Health Center in the United States, LECOM Health. The College is at the core of this highly innovative medical education system and strives to add to the quality of life of its neighbors by preparing the next generation of physicians, dentists and pharmacists at campuses in Erie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and in Bradenton, Florida. In 2020, LECOM opens its fourth campus in Elmira, New York.
LECOM has more than 4,200 future health care professionals enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), PhD, Master of Science degrees, and Post-Baccalaureate programs. More than 11,000 LECOM graduates are providing health care around the country.
The College maintains one of the lowest, private medical school tuitions in the country, while maintaining the highest standards in medical education.
The College is unique in the number of student-centered educational pathways offered that match the individual learning styles of its students. These include two programs that allow medical students to complete their DO degree in three years.
LECOM also offers a three-year pharmacy degree in Erie, a four-year pharmacy degree in Bradenton, plus a four-year pharmacy distance education pathway. The School of Dental Medicine is a four-year program with the final year dedicated to clinical training in communities where there is a high need for dental care.
The College has developed special Early Acceptance Programs (EAP) with more than 100 affiliated institutions. These undergraduate colleges and universities grant qualified students a provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine or College of Osteopathic Medicine. In some cases, these programs will permit the student to start the professional program prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree from the undergraduate institution. The College also works with high schools to assist students interested in the EAP.
U.S. News & World Report ranks LECOM among the top five medical colleges for graduating primary care physicians. And, graduates consistently score high on national licensing board exams.
