Suffolk University offers students extraordinary access to world-class educators and experiential learning opportunities in the heart of downtown Boston. Students at Suffolk learn just steps away from the city’s leading organizations in business, government, the arts, and healthcare. Outside of the classroom, they enrich their college experience at Boston’s famous museums, historic sites, theaters, parks, restaurants, and music and sports venues. Suffolk’s perfect location means the best of Boston is always nearby.
Whether they study government, communications, psychology, global business, marketing, environmental studies, entrepreneurship, or any other of Suffolk’s 60+ academic programs, Suffolk’s 5,565 undergraduate students come for the knowledge and hands-on learning they need to become leaders in their chosen fields.
Student-Centered Focus
Suffolk prides itself on being a student-centered university, where faculty members lead small classes and focus on nurturing students’ success. Students enjoy a 13:1 studen–faculty ratio and get to know their professors personally. Suffolk’s faculty members are accomplished scholars and successful industry leaders.
Suffolk’s campus features spaces that encourage collaboration and camaraderie. The classrooms in Suffolk’s newest building, 20 Somerset, feature state-of-the-art science labs and media centers, collaborative classrooms and study spaces, and a spacious dining commons. Suffolk’s residence halls are ideally located, too, so students can easily explore everything Boston has to offer.
While Suffolk’s campus and academic programs have evolved greatly since the University’s founding in 1906, its commitment to offering students access to life-changing opportunities remains the same. Last year, 93 percent of freshmen received financial aid to help them achieve their goals.
Emphasis on Experiential Learning
Every program at Suffolk is purpose-built to make students career-ready from day one. From the curriculum to internships and job shadowing, a student’s education comes alive because of Suffolk’s deep ties to Boston’s major business, legal, arts, financial, and legislative communities. Broadcasting students produce “Suffolk in the City” television news segments that air on New England Cable News. Finance majors analyze the latest stocks and compare currency exchange rates in a simulated trading room environment. Biochemistry students conduct original research and coauthor papers with faculty members. Students learn on the job at internships that will set them apart in the job market at Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit institutions, and game-changing startups that surround Suffolk’s campus.
A World of Ways to Get Involved
When they’re not in the classroom, Suffolk students participate in 80+ student organizations and compete on 19 NCAA Division III teams. They study abroad at more than 50 overseas institutions—including Suffolk’s very own campus in Madrid, Spain. They also give back by traveling to communities across the U.S. and abroad to address issues like affordable housing and poverty, environmental protection, LGBTQ rights, and youth mentorship.
