Central Connecticut State University offers students the opportunity to chart the course for their future through high-quality, low-cost experiential learning that positions its graduates to successfully enter the job market. The oldest and largest publicly funded four-year university in Connecticut, Central provides a supportive, personalized learning environment. Courses are taught by professors who have professional experience in their fields and continue to contribute to them through research, case studies, and publications.
Centrally located and within two hours of Boston and New York, Central was named a Best College in the Northeast (Princeton Review) and Best Value School (Niche). In addition to its affordable tuition, the Office of Financial Aid awards more than $100 million to students each year with an average aid award of more than $6,000. Also, all Central students are automatically considered for a merit scholarship when they apply for admission.
Central is known for its small class sizes with a student to faculty ratio of 14-to-1. This allows its professors to develop relationships and mentor students while providing them with the personal attention necessary for academic success. Central professors also work with students to secure internships, clinical placements, co-ops, and other real-world experience. One student described her Central experience this way: “There’s no need to struggle with your academics because there are so many resources here. The professors are really helpful. I’ve always been able to ask a question and get extra help. I also love the Learning Center. I started going there when I took Math and it was super helpful.”
At Central, students can choose from over 100 majors and academic programs, including ones not found at many other institutions.
Central is one of only a few Connecticut public institutions to offer undergraduate Engineering degrees, as well as a major in Robotics and Mechatronics. Central’s School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a distinction held by only 6 percent of business schools worldwide. Central’s Education programs are accredited by the highly regarded Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation. Central students receive a high-quality education at an affordable price.
Central has 16 NCAA Division I athletic teams that provide a tremendous amount of Blue Devil pride. The University’s football, men’s and women’s track and cross country, women’s swimming and diving, and men’s baseball teams are regularly Northeast Conference Champions. Along with many intramural and club sports in which students can enjoy, Central offers fitness activities in the new multi-million-dollar C.J. Huang Recreation Center and playing fields. Central has more than 120 student clubs, organizations, and leadership activities where students can find community, acceptance, support, and an opportunity to grow, discover new hobbies, and expand their experiences.
In addition to hands-on learning in the classroom and on campus, Central also has strong connections with the Greater New Britain community. Students can meet local residents and leaders through activities that contribute back to neighborhoods, organizations, and individuals. Service-learning projects such as food and clothing drives, community cleanups, and other projects enable students to find passion and a sense of purpose while forming enduring friendships and having fun. This reaches back to the University’s founding in 1849 and demonstrates why the University is Central to community, Central to the future, and Central to you.
Central’s distinguished alumni include successful business men and women, the first Latino United States Secretary of Education and Connecticut Supreme Court Justice, CEOs in a wide range of industries and corporations, leading academics at national universities, award-winning educators and educational leaders, trainers and coaches at high schools, colleges, and top NFL and MLB teams, journalists, novelists, and artists. You will experience a network of loyal, inspiring alumni eager to connect with you to provide job- and career-starting advice as they welcome you as a future Blue Devil alum.
