Community colleges are the smart place to start careers that lead to lifelong job security in all areas of business, healthcare, IT, science, education, law and criminal justice, as well as sports, human services and the fine and performing arts. With more than 65 degrees or certificates, students find that Genesee Community College not only offers affordable tuition, but flexible class-times, modern, well-equipped, facilities, and best of all — faculty who are focused solely on their success.
But there’s much more. GCC’s new buildings, the Student Success Center and Richard C. Call Arena put students on the cutting-edge of educational opportunity. Each incoming student has an assigned success coach to proactively keep them on track to graduate on time, and helps them find the resources they need for additional support.
The Richard C. Call Arena is home to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Champion Men’s Soccer Team (2017) and the national champion Men’s Lacrosse Team (2016). The new Arena provides a field house, fitness center, the human performance lab, classrooms, coaches’ offices, and a press box overlooking the turf field. Students in GCC’s Fitness and Recreation, Sport Management and Physical Education programs enjoy these state-of-the-art facilities.
Genesee Community College’s wide array of academic options includes a Business and Commerce division with more than a dozen degrees or certificates. Whether you are a budding entrepreneur needing a business plan; want to delve into white collar crime with a degree in Economic Crime Investigation; aspire to work in tourism and hospitality, accounting or supply chain management; or pursue a career through GCC’s Fashion Business Program, GCC provides a clear pathway to these and many others dynamic vocations.
Similarly, GCC’s Information Technology division gives students six different programs to choose from including Computer Information Systems, Support and Operations, Systems and Network Technologies, Web Design, Help Desk Support and Computer Repair. Anyone interested in a healthcare career has plenty of options as well. Nursing, physical therapist assistant, respiratory care, veterinary technology, and polysomnographic technology, which is the study of sleep disorders, are excellent career choices. All of GCC’s healthcare programs provide hands-on learning and opportunities for clinical experiences. In addition, GCC’s one year Health Studies certificate allows students to explore the healthcare industry to find the best fit.
Students who want to pursue a vocation in law or criminal justice have seven different academic opportunities at GCC, such as a concentration in homeland security/emergency management, forensics, corrections counseling or paralegal studies.
There are also degrees and certificates in Teacher Education, the Natural Sciences, Human Services, and the Liberal Arts. With the Genesee Center for the Arts offering an acoustically refined 328-seat auditorium, the exquisite Roz Steiner Art Gallery, Mac and CADD labs with the latest industry-grade software, as well as studios for dance, music, drawing, painting and ceramics — anyone interested in the arts should choose GCC. The best day to explore degrees in Digital Art, Theatre Arts, Theatre Technology, Fine Arts, Musical Theatre or Communication and Media Arts is Friday, May 3, 2019 for the special Creative Arts Exploration Day, which starts at 8:45am.
Choosing to live at College Village rounds out the experience with the student residential community just a two-minute stroll from campus. With different room choices, College Village residents appreciate having WiFi, cable, phone service, laundry, utilities and parking all included in the room rate. The Citizen Scholarship program gives students interested in expanding their leadership skills the chance to excel and advance their level of responsibility. College Village is re-opening Birch Hall this summer offering the latest in communal living arrangements with single bedrooms surrounding the shared, centrally located expansive kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Finally, college is also about making new lifelong friends. With more than 50 student clubs and the invitation to start a new club if you have a special interest, GCC has a vigorous campus life happening outside the classroom. There are 13 intercollegiate athletic teams, the Forum Players Theatre Group, the New Courier newspaper (now online) and special events and activities happening all year long. Choosing GCC will be among your best decisions ever! Even those who are seeking a bachelor’s or higher degrees find GCC is the perfect place to start with an abundance of transfer opportunities and the ‘seamless’ SUNY transfer system.
